This is a picture I'm going to offer as a prize for a L5R tournament.
It's still on it's early stages (the scene will be on a desolate battle field, with dead people and broken weapons all around), but the background is pratically done, although the sun needs to be redone.
Samurai done in pencil from reference from a picture from The Last Samurai movie, and then coloured. The background took about 2 hours, using Corel Photo-Paint and a mouse.
EDIT: Well, a few more details were added, such as the broken banner, the dead man in the distance, the trashed katana etc etc... I was going to put a dead oponnent at the samurai's feet, but I think it would overcrowd the picture, so I decided not to.
The sun and the clouds got a massive remake, and I added the Kanjis for "Peace" and "War", because the original print will have the saying "Let he who desires peace be ready for war." in portuguese. Not bad for a first attempt at fully drawing a landscape.
It looks very beautiful! The colours are warm and creates a great contrast for the silhouette. And I love how the trees and grass to the right is a bit blurred. It really adds to the realism.

Is this a test? It has to be,
Otherwise I can't go on.
Draining patience, drain vitality.

Well, a friend of mine who is an excellent artist taught me that the further things are in the distance, the more blurred they are, so I tried to give an impression of distances by "cheating" -- when I put blurred trees in the right.
